Overview
This article will go over the steps for uploading a PDF into Workspace. To get started, you will want to make sure you create a Publication slot. For more information on Publication Slots and organizing your content, please review this article: Fastr Workspace - How to organize your content
Once you have a Publication slot ready, it should look like this:
Uploading Your PDF
- In the publication slot view, click on “+” icon. This will open a pop-up window where you can select your PDF file.
- After picking a PDF file, you’ll be prompted to select a Book, as shown in the dropdown below. For more information on Books and the different layouts available, please review this article: Fastr Pubs - Book Layout Options
- You will also see checkbox options for "Has Cover" and "Force Spread".
Has Cover - This can be checked to make sure that your publication starts with a single page, and then transitions to double spreads. Leave this option unchecked to start with a double spread.
Force Spread - We don't recommend enabling this option, unless your double spreads are not being correctly detected. For more information, feel free to contact support@getfastr.com
- After selecting "Confirm", the PDF file will begin to process. The length of the processing will depend on the size of the PDF that is uploaded. Once the processing steps are complete, you will see a notification in the top right corner of your screen. You will now be able to click on the Publication to begin making edits.
Note: If you see an error message, you can try to make the upload again. If you continue to see errors when uploading, please contact support@getfastr.com
Adding to an Existing Publication
Once you have a publication slot, you can continue to upload more PDFs in the same slot. This can be useful if you need to revisions, or if you want to schedule a new publication to go live in the same slot.
To do so, click on the Plus icon as shown here:
You’ll then follow the same steps as above to upload and assign your PDF.

FAQs
- What if my PDF upload fails repeatedly? Is there a way to fix this?
- Answer: Yes. If you experience repeated upload failures, please contact support. Our team can assist you using an alternative upload process to resolve the issue.
- Is there a file size limit for PDFs uploaded to the Workspace?
- Answer: There is no strict file size limit. However, we recommend keeping the file size up to 500 MB. Larger files may cause issues while loading the publication and can negatively impact the user experience.
- How can I edit the text in a PDF? Can this be done directly from the canvas?
- Answer: No, text within a PDF cannot be edited directly from the canvas. Since the text is embedded in the PDF, you’ll need to use an external tool such as Adobe Acrobat to make any changes. After editing, you can replace the page using the Combine PDF option. Please refer to the linked article for a step-by-step guide.
- Which color space format works best for PDFs in the Workspace?
- Answer: For Fastr Publications, we recommend uploading PDFs in the RGB color space. You can refer to the PDF recommendations guide for more details.
